I asked my class what local bands had to do to increase turnout. Some students said they do not feel safe at the bars. Outdoor events are OK, but the weather is a factor. Too hot, too cold, windy etc. House parties were the favorite, but noise complaints are an issue, as well as minors possibly allowing themselves to be served. Looks like there is no easy answer.

Copy that. Thanks for fielding the question Dave. No easy answers indeed. My take on this is that the best thing to do is focus on playing with the audience in mind first and foremost, perform well as a group all round, have good sound at good listening volume and appreciate and be grateful to/for those that do come out by talking/listening to and thanking them. It's positive word of mouth from there on out which still seems to be the best thing going for business

Right, if bands keep playing the word of mouth advertising has got to take hold eventually. Too bad this isn't a larger city, bands could employ street teams. Advertise, advertise, advertise...
